Nicky Henderson’s Cheltenham winner Beware The Bear may head to Ayr next for the Coral Scottish Grand National on Saturday April 13.

The winner of Tuesday Ultima Handicap Chase ran in the £210,000 contest last year when he was pulled up but it may be that the champion trainer will fancy another crack at Scotland’s richest jumps race.

And Big River the horse that finished fourth in the Ultima and is trained by Lucinda Russell could also head for the Coral Scottish Grand National.

The relatively lightly raced nine year old won a handicap hurdle on his one and only run at Ayr in 2016 and his shrewd trainer could well see this horse as her best chance of winning the jewel in the crown of Scottish racing.

Other horses likely to be aimed at the Scottish National include Sandy Thomson’s Geronimo, Acdc from the Chris Grant yard and the Nicky Richards trained Chidswell.

Entries for the race close on Tuesday March 26 at noon with the list of horses revealed the following day.
